Q: What should I expect on my first visit?

A: Our physical therapists will begin by asking you questions about your health and the condition you want them to treat. We will then perform a detailed examination consisting of evaluating your strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, posture, heart rate, etc. We may use our hands to examine or “palpate” the affected area or perform a detailed examine of the mobility of your joints, muscles and other tissues. We may evaluate how you walk and how you use your body for certain activities such as bending and lifting.

We will work with you to determine your goals for physical therapy and will begin to develop a plan for your treatment. Your physical therapist will teach you specific exercises to do at home. We will continually educate you regarding your progress and updates to your physical therapy program.

We will communicate important information from your examination and your progress to your physician, claims manager, attorney, etc.

Q: What should I do to prepare for my first visit?

  1. Make a list of questions you may have.
  2. Write down any symptoms you have and for how long.
  3. Write down key information about your medical history.
  4. Make a list of your prescription and over the counter medications and bring on your first visit.
  5. If available bring any lab or diagnostic reports from other health care facilities.
  6. Bring a list with the names of your physicians and other health care professionals.
  7. Always wear loose clothing to your appointment.

Q: My physician has referred me to another clinic, but I choose to come to TPTC. Can I do that?

A: You have the right to choose your physical therapist. Your physician may refer you for physical therapy that is to be provided in the physician’s office or to a facility in which the physician has a financial interest. If this is your situation be aware that you have the right to choose your own physical therapist and you are not obligated to receive physical therapy in any specific facility. Always insist that your physical therapy is provided by a licensed physical therapist.

Q: Do you accept my insurance?
