Kennedy Schilling Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Senior, Kennedy Schilling of the Winfield High School softball team.

Kennedy Schilling has been having a great senior year for the Winfield Generals who are currently 17-8 on the season. Schilling has 8 home runs, 7 doubles, an RBI of 40 and a batting average of .466. “Kennedy has been a 3-year player in our program and has been a valuable contributor to our recent team success. She has had a good season for our team, and we believe she will continue to improve as we move forward toward the end of the season” Coach Steve Hensley. Schilling has been playing sports since she was 7 years old, starting with t-ball for Winfield Little League and then basketball in the 3rd grade. Kennedy plays 1st base, 3rd base, and right and left field. Schilling wears #45 on the diamond and on the court. “Number 45 was my dad’s number, and it has always been my number in every sport”.

When discussing what Schilling loves most about softball, she said that she loves the excitement of the game, but really loves the people that she has met along the way and all the friendships that she has created. “I know people all over the country thanks to travel softball”. A role model that Kennedy has is her Grammy. “She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last June and her faith, attitude, fight, and determination cannot be described in words. She has truly shown me the definition of a fighter”. Team goals that Kennedy would like to accomplish this season include completing a 3-peat and returning to the state tournament and win again. “It’s going to be a very tough road, but we have really started to play well as a team, and I know we can do it”!

Off the diamond, Kennedy is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Club, Key Club, Pep Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Awards that Schilling has accumulated during her time at Winfield high school include 2021 All Kanawha Valley All-Rookie team for basketball, All Cardinal Conference Honorable Mention for basketball. 2022 WV State Runner-up AA Softball, AAA All Cardinal Conference Honorable mention for basketball, and Winfield high school Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) representative. 2023 WV State Champion AA Softball and WVSSAC AA All-Tournament.
