Kuhl Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Caleb Kuhl of Winfield Wrestling!

Caleb Kuhl has been a leader for Winfield wrestling this season and has an impressive 25-4 record this season.  The senior had a standout performance at WSAZ’s placing 7th in the 215lb weight class. Kuhl has a 93-25 career record with 61 pins.  “Caleb is a Team Captain for the wrestling team. He is a great team leader who does not yell at his teammates but uses a firm tone to get them focused.  He takes his wrestling seriously but also has a great sense of humor that helps to relieve the stress of competition. He is dedicated athlete.” said head wrestling coach Mike Cochran.

Kuhl started wrestling in the sixth grade when his older brother got into the sport. However, his focus has always been on football.  “Wrestling is so good, especially if you play another sport. You can put any athlete on the wrestling mat and they will walk away a better athlete,” said Kuhl. The motivation to get better for football has paid off as Kuhl will be playing for Grove City College in Pennsylvania next season.

When discussing his progress this season, Kuhl attributes a lot of his success to coaches and former teammates saying, “There has been a lot of good wrestlers go through Winfield. The senior class last year really pushed me Logan Howell, Tommy Fluharty, Zander Huffman. We just made each other better, and that group just really appreciated hard work.” Kuhl’s focus on football gives him the sense of playing with house money, saying “Any kind of accomplishment that comes from wrestling is just a little extra, and I just enjoy the violence and intensity of the sport.”

In addition to wrestling, Kuhl is a member of National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Bible Club, and football team. After high school, Kuhl plans to major in biblical studies and play football at Grove City College.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
