O'Dell Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

 

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Carson O’Dell of Hurricane Basketball!

Carson O’Dell has been leading the scoring for the 7-4 Hurricane Basketball Team. The sophomore guard has averaged 17.9 points per game including a season high 35 points against Parkersburg. “The season has been going well. We have worked hard…and the chemistry we have is great so that makes it a lot easier to go out and win,” said O’Dell.  

O’Dell has increased his scoring production by over 6 points per game, from his standout freshman season where he averaged 11.8 points per game. He says that he put in a lot of work the is off-season to improve his game including workouts, shooting, and playing against some very good AAU competition.  

“Carson is very coachable, and a great teammate. He has one of the quickest shot releases I have seen and is a true competitor that never quits,” said head basketball coach Lance Sutherland.  

O’Dell started playing basketball at an early age with his brothers and dad, and says he just really enjoyed playing. He went on to say that he enjoys the feeling of winning with friends and teammates and playing in big atmospheres. For role models, O’Dell pointed to his dad who has supported him through all the practices and games and his trainer Adam Zimmerman who he has worked with since he was seven years old. In addition to Basketball, O’Dell is President of Student Council for the Sophomore Class and a member of the Golf Team.  

Looking forward O’Dell said “I hope we can make a run to the State Tournament at the Civic Center. I think we have the team to do it, so excited to see what we can do the rest of the season.”  Hurricane will be back in action on Wednesday January 17th at 7:00pm when they travel to take on 6-5 South Charleston.
