Frye Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Karson Frye of Winfield Baseball!

Karson Frye has been leading the way for the 6-0 Winfield Generals Baseball team. The senior ace has pitched 9 innings recording 7 strikeouts and only allowing two hits this season. “Our defense has been great this season, which has given our pitchers confidence to just throw to location and get weak contact,” said Frye. Frye was on the mound the first game of the season where Winfield defeated AAA powerhouse Cabel Midland 6-1. “Starting off the season 6-0 including two AAA wins has been great, we haven’t done that before in my 4 years, I think this year is going to be something special,” said Frye.

Frye has contributed offensively as well this season.  The senior is batting .333 with 6 runs batted in and a home run. He also has 3 stolen bases on the year. “Karson has embraced our standards of character and work ethic since his very first day in our program. He has continued to improve every year and is an important member of our team,” said head coach Will Isaacs.

Frye started playing T-ball when he was a five, and even though he played other sports baseball was the sport that clicked. He says he likes the atmosphere and being on a close team with friends. He continued saying, “I like that it is a spring sport, where you have all school year to get ready for your season.”  Frye pointed to his dad as his biggest role model, and says that he always coached and supported him throughout.

Looking ahead, Frye says he is hopeful to make another state championship run this season. He said that he felt like a weight had been lifted when he committed to play for West Viginia State University and has just been having fun and playing for his team since.

The Generals will be back in action Thursday when they travel to play Buffalo at 6pm.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
